Congratulations to Jack Roady!

I know that this blog tries to focus mainly on what is going on in Harris County, but I am so very excited about my friend, Jack Roady, winning the Galveston County District Attorney position.

Jack started at Harris County about the same time I did, and I can honestly say he is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. He has spent the majority of his time in the appellate/writs section of the Office, so Galveston citizens can expect not just a very kind elected D.A., but also a brilliant one.

For the prosecutors in Galveston who don't know Jack, you don't need to be scared of him. He is going to be a fantastic boss to work for. For the defense attorneys who practice in Galveston, you'll be happy to have him there. He'll listen to everyone's input and carefully consider all sides of the story.

I don't have anything bad to say about the current sitting D.A., because I don't know him.

But I do know that you can't go wrong with a prosecutor like Jack Roady.

Congratulations Jack!

Will he keep Donna? Hopefully, he won't make the same mistake Harris County Did in causing her to leave.

The Galveston County DA's office will become what Harris County's used to be....GREAT!

Beach property is looking awfully good on the West End.

Was "For the prosecutors in Galveston County who don't know Jack" a Freudian slip?

Ha! I suppose it could look that way, couldn't it?

But it wasn't. So far, I've only had one case down in Galveston, and the prosecutors I dealt with were fantastic to work with.

Murray--

As a Galveston prosecutor who's been reading your blog/lurking here for quite a while, I really appreciate you going to the trouble to try to reassure us about our new boss. We really DON'T know him, we're not too sure what's going on. and it means a lot that you'd not just congratulate your friend, but take the time to think about our "fear of the unknown" factor. Most of us are feeling a little shaky right now, and this helps a lot. THANK YOU!

Jack Roady is such a class act. Terrific guy, dedicated prosecutor. He will make a great DA for Galveston County. Our loss, their gain. Congrats, Jack!

Gee, a talented, well-liked prosecutor leaves Harris County to work for another county, or go to the defense bar--what a surprise.

Pat can spin her bullshit all she wants about how attrition rates are no different than they ever were, but she's 100% full of shit. More great people than ever before are leaving--including at least 3 at the chief level before the end of the year, and at least 3 at the felony 2 and 3 level. What a fucking mess.

You can't compare Jack Roady to our Four Musketeers. Jack is actually a prosecutor. He will also put his troops and county above his self image. Galveston County will have a 1st class DA's office and HCDAO will remain Comedy Central.

Harris County didn't cause Donna to leave. A whining Roger Bridgewater got his Mama Lykos to give Donna an ultimatum to leave or be fired.

You're on target. The Queen of Oz is still steadily causing the cream of HCDA to escape the insane asylum any way they can. e.g.: Smyth, Bradley, and Brown. They got a double win!

suckerabHere's hoping Galveston Co gets some much needed streamlining in how they handle their cases. It always used to take an eternity to resolve something as simple as a DWI.

The ADAs in Galveston County should not fear, Jack Roady is no Pat Lykos and you and the citizens of Galveston County can be thankful for that.

So would it be fair to say that under the new administration in Galveston DWI's won't routinely be reduced to reckless driving. Y'all all know about each County's reputation. Brazoria - easy pickings - inexperienced prosecutors; Ft. Bend - Nazi's no gray - every case a Capitol. Galveston: "The little Big Easy". (Harris County is already pretty well covered here every day). Love to see the stats on how many DWI's were reduced to reckless driving or some other "purported" lessor over just the past 10 years. Something to look at New One.

KEEP LESTER and DONNA !!!!!!

On a totally separate note, Murray I thought you would find it interesting that the Advance LRW class is writing an appeal of the State v. Fix case you tried as their final exam.

Anon 12:35 P.M.,

I had no idea anybody was looking at the Fix case. That was really a fascinating one to try. I'd like to hear more about what y'all are studying about it.

The class was given the reporters record, without the exhibits. The class was then charged with finding the appealable issues, whatever they may be, and drafting an appeal for the defendant.

That case had a lot of interesting things going on both in and outside of the courtroom. The insanity defense was really an intellectual exercise to work against.

HUGE congratulations to Jack Roady!!! I'm so happy for him. The citizens of Galveston County are more fortunate than they even know. Our loss is their gain.

Best of luck to you Jack! I know you will be great and handle your new job with honor and integrity.
