New Cold Justice Promo

As most of you know, the premiere of Cold Justice starring Kelly Siegler and Yolanda McClary premieres on September 3rd at 9:00 p.m. on TNT.  TNT released this extended preview today, showing snippets from the first three cases we worked on.

Any trouble with local cops?

No trouble with the local cops.

We go through a pretty rigorous screening process of the cases we work on. That process usually starts with local law enforcement inviting us to come work on the case. We also make sure that the local District Attorney's Office is on board with us being there, too.

I sincerely hope you are able to finally achieve your life-long goal of getting IMDB status. The promo is good, but I could not find you. Please post any cameos, stand-in photos or monologues from your small screen debut. Proud of you, Murray.

It is remarkably hard to believe that not a single positive comment has been posted to congratulate Kelly Siegler for having achieved this well deserved extraordinary accomplishment!

CONGRATULATIONS KELLY!!!

The deafening silence says a lot about the character of people who watched one of their own fall on her sword for them as they continue to turn their heads.

I wonder if the Kelly haters appreciate the irony of her show NOT succeeding..........careful what you wish for boys and girls.

Murray,

Anon 2:55's closing line brings up an interesting implication, albeit not fully thought through.

I know that HCDA policy prohibits ADAs from earning money working extra jobs that constitute the active practice of law (including the acceptance of referral fees).
However, it is also well established that ADAs have been compensated, without challenge, for teaching law classes and seminars both in and out of Harris County.

My question is two-fold:
1. Is the elected (or appointed) DA of Harris County also so precluded from being compensated for practicing law?
2. If so, would the actual course and scope of Ms. Kelly Siegler's employment by Dick Wolf and/or TNT constitute the active practice of law?
My initial impression is that Kelly is working (investigating) the case for DAs of other counties so that they, NOT her, can decide whether or not to prosecute. Kelly is therefore not acting in the capacity of Special Prosecutor and as such this activity does not appear to be in conflict with her being the next DA of Harris County; should that opportunity present itself and should she accept and also want to continue her career at a Hollywood movie star.

AND most importantly---well done Kelly, well done indeed.

Are you and KS going to have a watch party in Houston or Beverly Hills? Let us know where and when if you all will be in Houston for the premier.

Woo Hoo can't wait. Congrats to you both.

Congratulation to you and Kelly I hope the series is a huge success.

anon 2:55,
I agree. How weird is it that no one wants to talk about an office show of support for Kelly? No watch party, no support, no nothing. It's like Kelly never worked at the office.
I'll bet Kelly & Co. solve more cold cases than our "Special Crimes" Bureau and I hope her show is a great success.

Kudos to you and Kelly. I will tell my grandkids I used to work with you guys way before you were famous. All the best for many seasons to come.

Examining the Effectiveness of the
Expert Witness in High Profile Cases

Our "Defense Attorney", Chris Tritico and "Prosecutor", Kelly Siegler will be discussing the importance of expert and fact witness testimony in the recent George Zimmerman trial. Video of several key witnesses will be played to exemplify various real world scenarios involving live testimony. Our legal team will discuss factors that make one witness more believable than another, show examples of witnesses that try too hard or reach too far, how a witness can backfire and how witnesses can be excluded altogether.

A portion of the program will be reserved for Mr. Tritico and Ms. Siegler to recount their personal experiences with expert testimony in their own high profile cases including Mr. Tritico's defense of Timothy McVeigh in the Oklahoma City Bombing and Ms. Siegler's prosecution of Susan Wright. A current Houston Homicide detective will be available to join in on our Q&A portion of the event.

Ms. Siegler is a veteran prosecutor who has fought for justice for Harris County residents and crime victims for over 21 years until her resignation from the District Attorney's office as Bureau Chief of the Special Crimes Bureau in 2008. Her new reality series "Cold Justice" will premier September 3rd on TNT.

Mr. Tritico is a partner at the law firm of Tritico Rainey, PLLC practicing in criminal defense. He is the legal analyst and host of The Chris Tritico Show on News Radio 740 KTRH and the legal analyst for Fox 26, KRIV in Houston.

Thanks for the heads up on today's CLE. It was pretty cool to see my old chief kick it up a notch again and can't wait to see the show.

Looked for your bald head in the crowd Murray-- too many people.

Congrats, Kelly! As a former ADA who had the pleasure of watching at in-house CLEs, and found you riveting, I think the audience for this show will start off strong and will grow as they tell their friends to watch. I don't usually like watching these kinds of shows, but I have my eye on this one.

Also, Murray how are you involved? I notice the use of "we" in your description of this show. I know you've worked with Kelly before, but I want to know how you're involved in this show. I'm curious whether any other former ADAs from Harris County (or HC defense attorneys) are involved too.

Murray Newman said...

Anon 7:44,

I worked as a legal consultant on the show. I'm off camera. It was a really fun experience.

Any word if the office is going to host a watch party?
No one has heard a thing and it's less than 2 weeks out.

Dear Dear Anon 9:40:

“Class never runs scared. It is sure-footed and confident, and it can handle whatever comes along. Class has a sense of humor. It knows that a good laugh is the best lubricant for oiling the machinery of human relations. Class never makes excuses. It takes its lumps and learns from mistakes. Class knows that good manners are nothing more than a series of small sacrifices and minor inconveniences. Class bespeaks an aristocracy unrelated to ancestors or money. Some extremely wealthy people have no class at all, while others who are struggling to make ends meet are loaded with it. Class is real. You can't fake it. Class is comfortable in its own skin. It never puts on airs. Class never tries to build itself up by tearing others down. Class is already up and need not attempt to look better by making others look worse. Class can walk with kings and keep its virtue and talk with crowds and keep the common touch. Everyone is comfortable with the person who has class because he is comfortable with himself. If you have class, you've got it made. If you don't have class, no matter what else you have, it won't make up for it.”

Now do you really think the Honey Boo Boos at 1201 Franklin are going to condone any event that would celebrate Kelly Siegler?

I have the pleasure of working for Kelly in Special Crimes and with her on some cases, and she is class. The worse day was the day she let thr office and she asked me to help her move her things to the loading dock. Man, I think of all the experience that left. I know the show will be kick ass, and to boot they threw in Johnny Bonds who has forgot about more homicide cases than most see in a career.

Anon 9:40 and 12:06, that's just dumb. The office, a government entity, would not host a party to watch this or any show, even if they were to rebrodcast the awful pom pom mon movie featuring Mike Anderson.

Face the facts, while a lot of us were Kelly supporters and are still big Kelly fans, she has been gone from the DA's office for over 5 years. Because the Lykosians ran off so many vets, the majority of current HDCA employees never worked with Kelly or only have some vague idea of who she is or what a tremendous prosecutor she was.

Yes, Kelly stepped up to the plate and tried her best to get elected DA. Unfortunately it did not work out and our lives were a living hell for four years. A lot of us admire her and appreciate the sacrifices she made. A whole bunch of us will watch the show.

The vast majority of the Kelly Haters left the building on 12-31-12 if not before.

Lighten up!

Anon 12:06 said...

anon 3:51,

Please! Who said anything about a "government funded" party?

No one advocated this be on par with a Rosenthal BBQ or an Anderson Money Bomb it was merely suggested that, "Hey a former Harris County ADA that is internationally know is starring in her own TV series. Wouldn't it be cool if a bunch of current ADAs got together OFF DUTY ON OUR OWN DIME to watch the 1st episode TOGETHER? Perhaps it would promote a much needed camaraderie and pride in our jobs as ADAs? Perhaps it would be a healing process of sorts? Maybe a symbolic thank you for a job well done to one of our own would be something worthwhile?

Nah, forget about it. What a dumb ass idea--never mind.

Anon 4:53, "Any word if the office is going to host a watch party?" Sure sounds like a "government funded party" to me and a bunch of other people I imagine. You want a watch party, set one up or offer to host.

"Healing process"? We all started feeling a helluva lot better around May 29, 2012. Were you a Lykos pet who fell from grace upon the Troll's exit? What's your beef with our new boss?

In the words of my friend Kelly Siegler, "spare me the histrionics".

Let us know where the watch party is that you are setting up.

Anon 8:51 said, "Anon 4:53, "Any word if the office is going to host a watch party?" Sure sounds like a "government funded party" to me and a bunch of other people I imagine"

REALLY?

Never mind the misquote, there have been MANY non-governmental funded DA functions in the past besides BBQs for the Chuckster and Money Bombs for Mikey.
ADAs having a social get together to celebrate a big trial win, a retirement, a birthday, a newborn, a promotion and a lot of other social events were not as rare as you pretend. Hell, even Anderson tried to start up some after hours' Happy Hour social events if you recall.

Watch Party details to follow, cave dweller.

When a former or current co-worker, friend, alumni, team mate, room mate etc. achieves something extraordinary we have a choice in how we respond--indifference, pride or envy.
Envy and jealousy are some tough demons to battle for crabs that just can't quite get to the top of the basket.
Maybe after you catch a few seasons of KS's show you might understand the difference and impact solving cold cases has compared to a bunch of tough guys or gals in make believe land.........but then again maybe reality and fantasy are a blur for you.

Cold Justice, Season 1: Episode 7
My thoughts:
I am overwhelmingly concerned with how this episode played out and ended. I would really like to see this case solved, primarily because it seems SO solvable. I watched the episode multiple times to try and establish whether or not I was off-base here, but please review what I have written and consider these points:
~Clearly it is peculiar the ax / murder weapon was left outside the house propped up against a tree and the psychology behind that leads to speculation. That being said, would a husband walk the ax out the front door, risking a neighbor see him do so?? (Probably not 1 who had gone this long without getting caught…Also, the brief picture that flashed of said tree made it look like it was a lengthy distance from the front door, right?)
~”Whoever committed this murder didn’t put a lot of planning into it, from what I can gather… there’s blood spatter, blood droplets leaving from the crime scene, throughout the home…”
**What husband hatchets his wife to death without much planning?
**Also, these “blood droplets throughout the home” – is that ONLY referring to the 1 drop in the sink THAT TURNED OUT TO NOT BE BLOOD? It seems like most of the evidence that suggested an “insider” has been discounted…? I wish you all could re-investigate this case without any knowledge of this pretend blood drop.
**The husband admits his deceased wife was opinionated, that he cheated on her many times, and that their marriage “wasn’t perfect”. Don’t most guilty husbands dance around these issues or fabricate a story of a happy marriage!? A BAD SPOUSE ≠ A CONFIRMED KILLER!
YOU ALL DISCOUNTED MARK CARTER’S INVOLVEMENT WITHOUT REASON!! “That kid did anything and everything for Mark.” –ex wife.
“The only 1 that really wanted revenge, that’s Greg Weller. He said ‘Mark, if you go away something’s gonna happen to that family…” -Mark
Q: Is Greg Weller officially dead? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE TELL ME YOU DID NOT OVERLOOK THIS OBVIOUS POSSIBILITY BECASE a) PRISONER MARK CARTER SAID “I KNOW HE DIDN’T DO IT…” and b) because he sent a letter to the prisoner that concluded with “I HOPE THIS HELPS YOUR CASE.” Uh, clearly he wrote the letter with the awareness that it would likely be evidentiary material helping this guy that he idolized... (need I say more!?)
From here, the story begins looking at other suspects…SERIOUSLY!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
PS=Someone who drinks 12 beers can sleep through a murder a few rooms away. Please go back in as a follow-up where you solve this case. Viewers would rather have you realize the murderer has passed away from cancer since the murder MORESO than watch y’all come up empty handed………trust me……….
