Kristin Guiney Appointed to 232nd Bench

In the midst of all the chaos at the courthouse(s) this week, there was a fantastic piece of news coming from Austin.  Governor Greg Abbott finally made the long-anticipated appointment to the bench of the 232nd District Court of Harris County.

Today, Kristin Guiney was formally announced as the Judge who would be filling the bench vacated by Judge Mary Lou Keel, who was elected to the Court of Criminal Appeals in November.  As most of you know, Guiney is a former prosecutor and currently practices criminal defense.  She previously served as judge of the 179th District Court, where she was highly respected by both sides of the bench.

Governor Abbott's couldn't have made a better choice!  Everyone from the CJC Community is looking very forward to seeing Judge Guiney back on the bench.

Congratulations Guiney!

Great News, she was one of the best on the bench. Luckily the 232nd is one of the posts that is elected in the midterm elections.

Kristin Guiney reduces bail for violent crimes.

The 17 year old black robbery arrestee for jugging an innocent lady in public causing serious injury to her is Joseph Harrell.

Harrell is nothing more than a thug! A monster! A punk with no redeeming value! An armed predator slithering amongst us seeking to find his next prey! He committed a street robbery of the worse kind, where a physical assault with serious injury was committed! Reportedly pointed a hand gun at a lady too!

Judge Gainey appears to think of herself still as a criminal defense attorney by reducing Harrell’s bail with home confinement and a monitor. Harrell is dangerous anywhere out of confinement! Adult jail for him until he is adjudicatedto be tried as an adult.

Harrell’s use of a gun, his repeat offender status, out on a pending case requires keeping this creep held in jail WITH NO BAIL! This lowlife should be considered PUBLIC ENEMY NO. 1 and will repeat if released!

Harrell’s attorney Catherine Evans has an ethical responsibility to our community safety and should be counseled for suggesting lowering his bail.

And Judge, you need another job!

Anon 4:10 p.m.,

First off, it's Judge Guiney.

Second, you appear to be an idiot, so let me help you through this process of understanding the law and other difficult items for comprehension.

The law exists to maintain some sense of order lest it be run by mob justice, consisting entirely by people ignorant of the law, such as yourself. Catherine Evans is did her job and your insinuation that she owes you, or anyone other than her client, any duty at all is laughable. That Judge Guiney agreed with an attorney's position despite the fact that it wasn't popular is the mark of a good and brave judge.

For future reference, please keep your stupid anonymous comments confined to the comments section of the Chronicle where they belong.

To paraphrase Murray Newman, "Those who don't know the law are ignorant and stupid."

An example of what is wrong with the law system (can't call it justice anymore). Elitist. Yeah, that's working. Saw a comment once "for every law written there are two more written to get around it".

I don’t need you paraphrasing for me. Let me help you out with my own quote just for you: “People who want to disregard the law in favor of Mob Justice (such as yourself) are stupid.” Especially those who are commenting on a blog from five years ago so that they can cal a good judges names because they don’t understand the law. That’s pretty stupid in my book.

Nobody knows all of the laws but there are some pretty core principles that we all get taught in school at an early age (maybe you were out that day) about rights that are provided to all of us in the United States. One of them is the presumption of innocence. There’s also the right to a lawyer to advocate for you and a judge to neutrally rule on issues regarding your case. Try learning those three. They are important. Very important. They are the principles that keep morons from forming lynch mobs.
