Humor in the Courtroom

From Rayford Carter in the 351st today, addressing the folks awaiting docket call:

RAYFORD: I'm looking for [Smith]. Is [Smith] here?

After a few seconds of awkward silence . . .

RAYFORD: Anybody here forget their last name?

More like someone forgot to show up for court.

I've been away from the CJC for a little over a year now, and I never thought I'd say this, especially after going to trial with Mr. Carter on at least two cases I can think of, but I kind of miss that guy. He certainly never made my day boring whenever I encountered him on a case. Thanks Murray, that made me laugh out loud.

I can just imagine his voice as he is saying this, and I can imagine his grumbling at the prosecutor, as if the prosecutor must've done something with his client - what - you been bothering my clients, asking questions. You people are always violating the rights of my clients. Why can't you just leave these folks alone?

Old Rayford.

About five or six years ago he came into Cappy's court and and was trying to convince a two to kick a case and, among other protestations, said something like "just look at him, he's not the type." Both Rayford and the two turned their heads to see his client, who he'd just finished telling to sit up straight and act right, busily sawing logs and drooling.

Undeturred, Rayford goes "nevermind that, er, you got bad facts!"

Gotta love him.
