Reasonable Doubt with Judge Mike Anderson (3/8/12)

Please join us on Thursday, March 8 at 8 p.m. for another Reasonable Doubt with host Todd Dupont and me.  Our special guest will be Judge Mike Anderson, who is running for Harris County District Attorney.  Judge Anderson is the second of three candidates (four, if you count Lloyd Oliver) to appear on the show, and we are excited to have him on.

As always, you can tune in to watch it live streaming by clicking here.

And speaking of Judge Anderson, he's got a new commercial out with a familiar face on it.

No doubt Don Hooper will be calling in with his usual insightful commentary.

Really....you're going to have a third candidate on the show? Do tell, when is that one going to be on????

Awesome video by Johnny Holmes supporting Mike Anderson. It takes allot to get Johnny to endorse anybody and I don't mean money. Integrity oozes out of him. He obviously deeply feels the need for a real prosecutor to take over at the DA's Office.

That commercial is gold - current ada.

I've never commented before, but seeing the Johnny Holmes endorsement of Mike Anderson compelled me to write. How exciting to see Holmes speak on behalf of Mike, and what a clear message he is sending to the voters.
For those of us hanging on for dear life,
there is a light at the end of the tunnel and it isn't a train!
Thanks Murray for your hard work and dedication to seeing that justice is done. I appreciate it more than you could know.

Anon 8:47,

Pat Lykos will certainly be invited to be on the show. Whether she chooses to be on will be entirely up to her.

Murray,

Judge Lickus will surely show up to tout her long experience as a seasoned prosecutor and communicator.

Anon 12:23,

I LOVE it! Now THAT'S a damn good campaign slogan:

"To all serious minded voters of Harris County. I introduce to you someone who needs no introduction, Mr. Johnny Holmes, affectionately referred to by those who worked under his leadership and for the citizens of Harris County for over twenty years.

Listen carefully how HE explains why HE is thoughtfully, earnestly and without reservation enthusiastically endorses the soon to be NEW Boss to those who serve under him and true Public Servant to ALL people of this great County, former Criminal District Judge, Mike Anderson for District Attorney. We are honored to call this endorsement video:

Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss"

Lykos is far too cowardly to make an appearance on that show. She is scared of having to directly answer questions that aren't from a pre-printed script. It would be great, but it won't happen. Bullies are cowards.

Is this gonna be archived on Vimeo or somewhere else?

Mike was himself and came off looking and sounding like the classy, but down to earth guy he is.

Good job!

Re: Rage, ain't notin to get mad at. Seriously, what's so bad bout sayin " Hey, here y'all, meet Mike Anderson - candidate for D.A. He's gonna run the office just like this guy, Johnny Holmes, Jr. who, BTW has a few words to share with you on why he is personally indorsing Mike and why you and your family and friends should as well: Roll Tape. Thanks Ragina!

Seriously, what's so bad bout

Y'all complain about Lykos hires, but you know who put Rosenthal in charge? Holmes. You know whose defendants are getting released based on DNA and other evidentiary issues? Holmes's.

I know y'all don't see a problem with an endorsement by someone who helped create the system that uses faulty evidence and produced the likes of Rosenthal, but there's a lot to be concerned about.

BY the way Murray--I'm not real sure about the hat. Maybe if it was darker. Try a felt rancher, it'll go better with the boots.

The great Johnny Holmes 1/2 ass supported Chuck Rosenthal in 2000 and his whole ass is supporting Mike Anderson in 2012.
It begs the question, however, as to what the great ass was thinking in 2008?

Rage,
If you knew your history a little better and would quit smoking' crack, you'd know that Holmes only gave tacit support to Rosenthal AFTER Pat Lykos announced her candidacy for DA in 1999. Holmes only gave limited support to Rosenthal because he well knew how bad Lykos would be if elected. She's more than proved him right.

PS: Holmes only prosecuted people with the evidence he had at the time. In this business, mistakes are sometimes made. He would be the first to tell you that if improvements to science correct those mistakes, he would be all for it. He never knowingly used faulty testimony to convict anyone.m

The chronic naysayers will not be swayed with this anecdote, but for those of an open mind this "rest of the story" bears recounting. Over fifteen years ago a person sought habeas relief from an aggravated sexual assault conviction in Harris County. The complainant in that case had been sexually assaulted in a school's well lit rest room. The habeas applicant was arrested a short distance and time later still on the school's campus wearing the described clothing and having the described dental imperfections. He was positively identified by the complainant. During diagnostic processing at TDC the individual "admitted" to the assault. The rape kit had been preserved and the individual challenged the conviction based upon DNA testing, not performed at the time of trial, years later. Notwithstanding the overwhelming "factual" evidence of conviction at trial, and an issue as to the integrity of the "rape kit" based upon questionable subsequent handling, Johnny Holmes' position was direct and unambiguous" "if we are to rely upon DNA evidence to convict, we will also rely upon DNA evidence to acquit." That individual received a pardon based upon actual innocence. So much for the use of faulty evidence. It is unfortunate that so many that contribute to this blog (as well as the public infected by television propaganda) do not understand that DNA evidence is of relatively recent employment. It is quite unfair to criticize either the prosecutor or defense lawyer for failing to utiize this resource in the past when only a decade or so ago DNA's acceptance was still arguably in its analytical infancy vis-a-vis criminal trials. Mike Anderson "trained" under Johnny Holmes for seventeen years and I do not doubt that he will adhere to the same philosophy of fairness demonstrated above.

Mr. Hartmann
Thank you for that information. It is helpful to know some background. I appreciate your well written post. It helps to put Rage in his place.

Rage you have been good for so long, what's up?

So what is your historical perspective of the 2008 DA race?

Your line of reasoning is difficult to follow.
