Brad Hart appointed to the 230th Bench

I was beyond ecstatic to hear this afternoon that my good friend and 1st Chief at the D.A.'s Office Brad Hart was appointed by Governor Rick Perry to the 230th District Court Bench.  Brad will be replacing Judge Belinda Hill who is going to the Harris County District Attorney's Office to be 1st Assistant under Mike Anderson.

I think we may have a new definition of a win-win situation here.

As I noted in my earlier post about Judge Hill, I think she was an amazing jurist and I'm sorry to see her go.  However, the leadership that she will provide to the District Attorney's Office make that loss worthwhile.  Having Brad take her place on the bench will help ease that transition, as well.

Brad was the best choice for the bench, in my humble opinion.  He is regarded by his fellow prosecutors as well the Defense Bar for having the highest integrity, intelligence and compassion.  I don't say it lightly when I predict that in the future he will be considered one of the best judges to ever take the bench.

The road to the bench has been a long one for Brad and I'm so happy that he got there today.  Governor Perry made an outstanding decision today.

The tentative plan is for a swearing in on Friday.  I will keep you posted on the details.

You're right! John Marshall, Learned Hand, Louis Brandeis, and now Brad Hart, already. Amazing.

Brad will make a fine judge. Any word who might be taking Joan Campbell's place in the 248th?

Awesome news...Brad Hart handled the loss to Maria T. w dignity and professionalism. Personally, I would have shot myself; losing to a mediocre at best traffic judge; but he kept his chin up. As a defense lawyer..I can tell you Brad commands respect. He is intelligent and has a big "heart". NICE GUYS SOMETIMES FINISH FIRST.

The legislature goes into session today. Any appointment made after it meets has to be confirmed by the Senate before the person can take office.
Also to anon 10:12, Judge Jackson is much more than a mediocre traffic judge. She is a good district judge who wants to do the right thing and usually does.

11:09--it's not a judge's job to "do the right thing." Sheesh.

1:31, I couldn't agree more.

Anon 1:31 and 4:41, you raise an important point. Doing the right thing is "defense attorney speak" for judges blatantly disregarding the law! Now that two of the best judges are in charge at the office, I'm glad we are all on the same team again.

Watch Maria Jackson preside over a trial.there is nothing more awkward then when either side makes an objection; she will sit there like somebody just dropped a deuce and didn't flush. Only way how to get a fair trial in the 3 39th is to get in a time machine and go back to the Cosper days. to me judges "doing the right thing" means that a judge has the testicular fortitude ...2 allow the defense to come to them without an agreed recommendation and go below a standard state offer.

Congratulations to Brad. This was an excellent choice on the Governor's part.

Judge Jackson has no clue.... really!!! she often asks others what she should do in situations, decisions, etc. She's a diva in a black robe. I am so glade that Brad, uh...Judge Hart got the bench. Couldn't think of a more deserving person.

Judge Hart is a fair Judge. He is intimidating though at times
