Major Pain?

I'm getting a lot of messages tonight about a rumor that former District Attorney Pat Lykos is being hired by the Harris County Sheriff's Office as a Major overseeing the Courts Division.  If it weren't for the fact that I'm hearing this rumor from so many different sources, I would have dismissed it as silly.  However, my most credible sources are saying that they've heard it from their most credible sources.

If Adrian Garcia really did hire Lykos, it is remarkably stupid of him.

First off, to hold the rank of Major, wouldn't Lykos have to be TCLEOSE certified?  She hasn't been certified in 35 years.  Is there a physical component to getting re-certified?  If so, I can't wait to see her on the obstacle course.  She's 70 years old now and still seems intent on forcing herself on the public.

More importantly, Lykos has a history of acrimonious relationships with almost everyone she has dealt with professionally -- especially her former employees at the Harris County District Attorney's Office.  The race against Mike Anderson was a bitter one, and she retaliated after her defeat by refusing to allow him into the building until after 5:30 every day during the transition.

Hiring Pat Lykos would be the political equivalent of Garcia giving the entirety of the District Attorney's Office the middle finger.

If this is true, the campaign against Garcia needs to start today. Maybe the deputies at HCSO could model a blog after yours.

what the actual fuck? i thought we wanted to establish *good* relationships with officers?

But if she is hired as a police officer, everyone can give her the finger, because there's this new case... it's true. I saw it. I did. I'm not lying.

It would be par for the course. After all, its the same Sheriff who thought that sending convicted criminals out door to door to campaign for him was a GOOD idea. Geez...

You can give cops the middle finger now. I'm not lying. There's a case. I saw it. I did.

So would it be 'Judge Major Lykos' or 'Major Judge Lykos' ?

Anon 10:30, it would still be "whore"! Politically speaking of course.

Brian, go ahead and give cops the middle finger... While you can't be arrested for that, I promise they can find another reason. That is like begging to be arrested, or just to get your ass whipped...

Murray, there are no physical requirements to carry a TCLEOSE commission. She would have to submit to psychological testing to prove she is psychologically fit to be a peace officer. I have serious doubts she could get past that requirement.

You don't need TCLEOSE PO license to hold the rank of Major. Adrian had a fired FBI agent as a Major. Then again nobody has told the Emperor that he's not wearing an clothes either.

All of you that have to work in that building are fixin' to be severely screwed. That woman will set courtroom security back 20 years. Look for anyone who had ever pizzed her off to be stuck out with no bailiff.

Excellent,Excellent decision Garcia made if true. Viva Garcia!
We support you Adrian.

The question is why. Retire, enjoy your time at the ranch.

If true I guess they would have to cancel the remake of The Wizard of Oz or get someone else to play her part. Garcia is pure politician. If he hired her it would be based on the false premise that she could help keep him in office. I just crossed a Major. No brain or integrity is required, so she is qualified. I hope she wears a uniform everywhere like Adrian Garcia.

Mr. Newman,

You have spent over four years slowly destroying Lykos from your blog perch. Four years of sour grapes if you ask me. If Mr. Anderson is your Saviour it would wise to engulf his words. Let there be a clean slat.

As much as I respect you and your opinion, its time to let Lykos and the idiots go. Your hatred will turn to tears when she succumbs to age if you don't.

Turn this blogs focus on the new admin. Don't let your opinions be buried by your friendship with them.

Anon 7:19, every dime of taxpayer money given to Lykos for any public employment is a dime thrown away and wasted. She should have never been a judge, never been on the County Judge's payroll and most certainly never been DA.

Time to give up on Lykos, no not now, not until she goes home and stays there.

I call BS. Adian is a hard core Democrat. I don't see him giving a 100K a year job to a Republican, even a RINO. Never mind the fact that putting her in charge of Courts will cause tremendous upheaval in the justice system.

Anonymous said...

Plus it could be very confusing to have two judges in a courtroom.

If she's in court in her new bailiff job and someone says, "Judge, I have a question" would they be asking the judge-bailiff or the judge-judge?

And worse - what if Roger is in there too - total confusion! Could be judge-bailiff, judge-defense attorney, or judge-judge.

How could Lykos keep Anderson out of a public building? That is truly despicable behavior.

Anonymous said...

Mike was not kept out of the building, he was kept out of the DA's Office until after 5:00 PM. Yes the building is a public building but the space occupied by the DA's Office is generally not open to the public.

Yes Garcia a democrat will hire a republican. He just hired Jim Leitner for 138k. Leitner is a republican, ran for DA twice as a republican and still is a republican. Would he hire Lykos? I would not put it past him.

Is the county retirement different that district court judges? If so, How much longer does Lycos need with the county to draw county retirement?

Anonymous said...

You folks who wonder why Lykos doesn't just retire to the country and draw her retirement (which she is very eligible for) simply don't know her very well. She isn't motivated by money. She has a narcissistic personality which is fed by attention, praise, and control. Take that away and she shrivels up like the wicked witch that had water thrown on her.

Wasn't going to post a comment but the cat will soon be out of the bag anyway. Lykos is being hired to help with the transition that will follow when the Sheriff's Department takes over all policing for the city of Houston. Along with the big federal investigation into HPD, there is also a desire by many on the city council to remove taxpayers from the monstrous burden of HPD pensions, and this will soon happen. Following many other cities who have , Houston will close HPD and eliminate the redundancy of all except the Constable's. Along with the demise of HPD, Garcia has been promised a new county jail from which he'll be directing his larger force.

Riiiiiiiiiight.

Anon 2:34...its way to early to be that drunk. There is a movement to eliminate the HPD pensions and thats a wait and see. The only elimination that I can see as a possibility if its even filed is a constitutional amendment to eliminate the Constable by county. IF it passes then the voters in each county can choose to eliminate all or some of those positions.

I think in terms of managing a large law enforcement agency, this is a crappy idea for Garcia. However, Garcia is a policitian, he realizes the intrinsic value of having Pat Lykos in his corner. Ed Emmett still thinks she's the greatest thing since baklava, and her presence in Garcia's commmand staff will certainly be used to garner favor with Commissioner's Court when it comes to budgets, personnel, etc. When Loren Jackson lost to the pre-pubescent offering of the Republican party, he was given a cushy job by Garcia, because he knew Jackson had earned the respect of many of the players Garcia needed to schmooze at that particular time. The same thing is true now.

It may come as a shock to the public, but unfortunately, people elected to public office, tend to hire people they know they shouldn't but do so because of friendship, political expediency, or to pay back favors. This is really sad because the public is loser in this circumstance. If Adrian hires Lykos, he is a fool and will regret his decision. Mike may also choose to hire some folks for wrong reasons and, if he does, he also will come to regret it. Elected elected officials should hire only those who are truly qualified and do honor to the office. Any other reasons are political or personal and are wrong.

No one at the county wants to take over policing the city. There would be no economic incentive since the city would not have to give up a dime in tax revenue, nor would the county want to handle the resulting mess. HCSO cannot control crime in the areas it already serves given staffing levels, no legal precedent available for a county to assume control of a municipality in Texas.

As far as city pensions, the city cannot dump them without the legislature approving, the GOP majority insuring that will never happen given they are big on police and fire protection. Given the liabilities incurred, the city is still on the hook for earned benefits no matter what it does in terms of making cutbacks, the post 10/2004 employees not amounting to much liability at all given their lower costs.

And anyone thinking the city is bankrupt need only pose as a developer with some land to build on, using some politician friendly contractor. You will be amazed at how much money the city can find on a moment's notice when a kickback is available.

Just lost all respect for Garcia. And yes, SCOTUS said you can give a cop the middle finger so finger away DA staff, however your boss may take issue with it.

If Garcia really is stupid enough to hire Lykos, he would also be stupid enough to not watch his back. Lykos could be counted upon to do everything she can to undermine Garcia and make a run for Sheriff herself when the time seems right for her.

She really is vain and arrogant enough to do something like that.

Anonymous said...

Vanity doesn't begin to describe her personality. She is conniving, ruthless, vengeful, retributive, self-promoting, covetous, and under-qualified in so many areas. Can someone identify the genesis of this rumor?

The genesis of the rumor?

Can anyone confirm that Lykos is actually going to the Sheriff's office?

I've had two insiders at the county confirm she hasn't been hired....yet.
