I had to swing by D.A. Intake briefly this morning and found this sign in the front window.
Man, nobody is going to accuse Pat Lykos of not taking immigration seriously if she doesn't even let the non-citizens sit down.
An insider's view of what is really happening in the Harris County Criminal Courts

I have never seen the term "citizens" preceded by an asterisk. I think you need to have a contest to name the footnote that goes with it.
I need you to make a new post. I haven't been able to piss anyone off with your last few.
Rage
The sign needs to acknowledge the fact we pay their salaries, rather than come across as some sort of order to the peons.
Here are a couple:

All caps and excessive use of exclamation points, sounds like ole Patsy may be under some stress there, I wonder what could be going on (scratches head sarcastically)

I agree that it shows an attitude of I'm the boss of you. Some act the same way in the courtroom thinking they are in charge there as well. The defense attorneys are as much officers of the court as they are. While I was chastising an ADA regarding an uninformed and rude comment about my client a number 2 TOLD me to have a seat and be quiet. I don't know if that works for her usually, but I explained to her that she had no authority over me and she might want to explain to her #3 how to conduct herself. I also had an ADA call me after I arrived back at my office after I had left another court and tell me that I NEEDED to come back and discuss her motion to quash some subpoenas. She was quite taken aback when I told her that I needed to do no such thing. The attitude is luckily not pervasive, but I am surprised that they think it is ok to display anything but a respectful attitude when respect is given to them.
Been reading this blog for the last 2 years. It seems to me that the attitude over at the DAO, especially from the non vested, the prosecutors have no direction.
With no direction, their professional attitudes are ones of spoiled little kids if they don't get their way. sounds like the childless, lykos.
And to think, people actually think its better around the building without Holmes and Rosenthal. Must be living at Willy Wanka's castle.
Murray,
Dee put up that sign because she spends half her time in the back pulling PC docket and helping the typists. She put "citizens" because we had officers sitting there. It should probably say "non law enforcement officers" but the citizens part was Dee, not Pat.
4:03 and 9:51, with all the bickering going on (and obviously an inept group of DAs trying to run the place) no wonder nothing ever gets done on these cases and the jail is so overcrowded. I'm just a peon citizen trying to make it in this world as a family member (also a peon citizen) awaits trial while you all waste our time. :/
People who work there are afraid of being scrutinized by the 6th floor about everything they do. About half the cases shouldn't even be filed, much less tried. Getting one of those cases dismissed is impossible. Most are "turd on turd" cases. The complaintant or other witnesses have worse records than the defendant. Why do you think the jails are so full of these guys.
Most of the people who work there hope that Mike Anderson runs and wins. Couldn't be any worse than it is now. At least he's not self centered like Pat. She only cares about herself. Pat says "Screw justice". What can you do for me? Mike would stand behind you as long as you thought you were doing the right thing and not about "covering your ass".
Enough said....."Just do the right thing".

I appreciate your sentiments about wasting time especially with an incarcerated defendant (mine was at least on bond). I was defending a case where the case law was clear that reasonable suspicion was not presented. The judge rather than finding no PC told the prosecutor that she needed to call the officer for more or she might be in trouble on her case. WTF? We then proceeded to come to court after repeated requests for the video of the stop which of course never materialized in spite of the fact that it was recorded. We won the ALR hearing based on the law and facts presented by the arresting officer in his report, but could not get the same ruling from the judge in the criminal case. The criminal case was finally dismissed because of multiple stories by the arresting officer and suspicious circumstances of the video being "corrupted". Talk about a waste of time on a case that should have been dismissed the first day. A few years ago these were being dismissed. Now they want to wait for the blood test to arrive then prejudice the judge's decision on on the legality of the stop and admissibility of the evidence, bootstrapping with the illegally obtained blood evidence. After going over these facts with the DA at the setting prior to dismissal I was told well it's still an over the limit blood test so good luck with that. Did not matter to that DA that probable cause was lacking and that admitting that blood test would be a violation of the defendant's Fourth Amendment rights as well as a violation of Texas' Exclusionary Rule.

The DA is in no hurry to get your family member's case done. They want your client to stay in jail long enough to agree to plead guilty in exchange for accepting the time already served as punishment for the offense. A lot of peple will plead guilty to get out rather than wait months longer for a trial that they may lose.
9:56, I appreciate your input, but theres no way in an August in Texas that we'll plead guilty to something like this, they can't hold ya longer than 5 years without trying you right? I've already filed bankruptcy and our church is providing for groceries every month so I guess we will wait out justice, this case should have been dismissed on day one, the cops didn't even investigate the accusation!!! If this had only happened during a time when the ADAs weren't afraid to do the right thing, I guess I will try to find comfort in the fact that the multiple ADA's who have had this case on their desk have all remained employed by not dismissing this case, hope their families are having a nice holiday season. :/
Why do they give illegal aliens a probated sentence, when they know that they'll get deported and never show up for the first reporting.
Murray,
At one point you stood for pointing out the numerous issues with the current administration. Recently it sounds like sour grapes. Unfortunately, many of the commenters merely whine because they can't get their case dismissed. Guys, grow a pair and be real advocates instead of complainers. This administration is a joke. Fact. However, this blog becomes a joke if we just complain about everything.
There is supposed to be a special task force to ease the overcrowding in the Harris County jail, that's headed by a ex-judge. Doesn't sound like they are do very much culling out of weak cases either. They seem to keep it full with technical probation violators and bond revocations (only to issue another bond), or people that can't afford to pay their fines.
The courthouse is the one common denominator for a screwed up justice system in Harris County, and the use the jail as a Debtors Prison to keep the cash flowing.
8:11, what is a blog if not an outlet for expressing disdain?
Aren't you just complaining about the complainers? How, in your wisdom, does one become an advocate?
Happy thanksgiving.
A lot of the "complainers" work at the office and would lose their job if caught supporting another candidate or publicly speaking against the current administration.
I have to say I find it funny that there are complaints about delays getting to trial. There are a cuple of cases I have seen recently where defense attorney's have had a file waiting for them to pick up for over a month and never came. What kind of defense attorney sets a case for trial and never looks at the evidence??? If I was paying that guy and found out I would fire his ass.. There are some poor prosecutors but the defense side is just as much to blame...
"poor prosecutors". That is funny.
"poor prosecutors". That is funny.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING please vote for pat lykos she is doing a great job
Murray I hope you will vote for pat lykos because there is not anyone else that can do her job. Would you like to have a meeting with Judge Lykos to discuss your issues. I really think you have a lot of ill feelings toward her. Would you like to have a meeting with her instead of hiding behind this blog to get answers.
A Person Who Can Arrange a Meeting,
You said: "there is not anyone else that can do her job". Heh. A brain damaged monkey could do a better job than she is doing. Luckily she has a pack of them in her upper administration.
You can't think of somebody who could do her job better? I can't think of anyone who would be worse.
If Lykos wants to meet with me, I'm about the easiest to reach human being on the face of this earth. I'm sure it would be just fascinating.
As I was reading the news today, I saw a statement that would also apply to Pat Lykos.
"The Syrian people are being killed but we don't want this. Every Syrian official should not accept killing even one person," bin Jassim said. "Power is worth nothing while you stand as an enemy to your people."
Lykos governs her office the same way Assad does his. Her path is strewn with those employees who dared question her poor governance. She is an enemy to her people.
Because of her egocentric personality and lack of competence, she has few supporters within the Office. Voting to give Lykos a second term is unthinkable for anyone who chooses to seek out the real facts.

So you can arrange a meeting? Interesting how the previous DA's had an open door policy towards the public and voters.
Yet this DA, has to have a minion schedule meetings with the people she represents? I think that says it all about the individual, and her minions, we are dealing with.
Murray, why don't just stop by and meet with the DA over some ice cream. If you are lucky enough to get a meeting with her, please take your shoes off before entering her domain.
Take a recorder so we can all hear the arrogance, narcissistic, Alzheimer voice of ignorance.
I was wondering how many cases Pat Lykos has personally prosecuted during her reign of terror?
At one point you stood for pointing out the numerous issues with the current administration. Recently it sounds like sour grapes.
If anything he's engaging in fewer personal attacks on her, and has trended toward the substantive.
However, this blog becomes a joke if we just complain about everything.
Tell us, in three succinct sentences, what the Hell you happen to be doing to change things.
(I won't be holding my breath.)
There are a cuple of cases I have seen recently where defense attorney's...
First of all, learn the difference between possessive and plural.
Second, your anecdotal bullshit doesn't exactly stand up against the systemic abuse of the system by judges and prosecutors. If they want a case to go to trial, it goes. If they don't, it won't. A defense lawyer can ask for a setting or a continuance, but the calendar is controlled by the prosecutors (that includes the prosecutor wearing the robe).
A Person Who Can Arrange a Meeting
Hell, I could get him a meeting with anyone in the county. In what way would she convince him what a great job she's doing?
She is an enemy to her people.
Wake up, penis breath. We have more to fear from our local DAs than we ever will from any terrorist organization. Al Quaeda is no real threat to even the tiniest fraction of Americans. A jackass cop backed by an abusive prosecutor and supported by even the most average of judges are serious threats to our freedom. It's hilarious that you think Lykos is the only threat, and then again you seem to limit it only to the office and its employees. You need to wake up.
Rage
Rage, you obviously got off your meds over the holidays. You need to get back on them ASAP.
When is the filing deadline for the election?
Anon 2:13,
December 15 is the filing deadline, the primary is March 6 and the crucial run-off is May 22.
Hey Lloyd Oliver has filed as a D!
ABC 13 reports that five police officer unions speak out against Lykos. Ha! You ready Pat! This is where you're probably wishing you would have treated your employees differently.
Zach Fertitta announced he's running. It was in the society column of the Chron.
