The latest news (originated on Channel 11 last night) has got the entire District Attorney's Office in an overall depression, it appears. Several of the ADA's that I know are mortified over not just what Rosenthal has e-mailed in the past, but the way he is handling himself now. I feel sorry for them. Lots of them wish their boss would resign and let them get back to business, but every day a new scandal emerges. And through it all, Chuck seems all the more resolved to not budge.
Rosenthal seems to have brushed aside Ed Emmett's call for his resignation with a bemused statement that he isn't leaving. My understanding is that some ADAs are even having to incorporate the "Rosenthal Scandal" into their jury selection process. Folks, that's terrible when the idea of an unrelated sex scandal is being incorporated into trials like that. I think the ADAs have (in general, I can't speak for all of them) lost faith in their leader.
I feel sorry for them, to some degree. I really do. All of their futures are uncertain and each day that Chuck remains in office is causing them more and more embarrassment. I don't think that this is what they thought they were signing up for when they applied for the job.
And, as an aside, after last night's "watermelon e-mail" revelation, what do you think is going through the minds of those prosecutors at the office who are African-American?
An insider's view of what is really happening in the Harris County Criminal Courts
