Gone Fishing

QUESTION: So what do you get when you're a member of the media with an open records request for Kelly Siegler's e-mails?

ANSWER: Nothing inappropriate.

FOLLOW-UP QUESTION: What do you get when you try fishing through Rob Freyer's e-mails?

ANSWER: Nothing inappropriate.

I'm waiting for the media to host a breaking news alert to announce this news. Maybe it can be buried next to the story of Rick Casey admitting he got all his facts wrong when he was blasting Sam Siegler for the e-mails he allegedly sent to Rosenthal.

Maybe Kelly and Rob have a better understanding of the HCDAO's email retention policy than Chuck had?

Now now, Mr. Bennett. What's that whole credo about "Innocent until proven guilty" again?

Mark Bennett said...

That applies when the government is trying to take away people's freedom. Outside of that context, it's a flimsy refuge for those who don't want to take responsibility for their screwups.

You know that I'm going to figure out who you are, right? It's just a matter of time. You can tell me, and I'll keep the secret, or you can not tell me, and when I find out, I won't. Your call.

Well clearly you don't support the whole idea of me keeping my identity secret to foster better communication. I'm curious as to why you are so curious?

And, hey, isn't that blackmail?!?!

Mark,
I've been thinking about your proposal, and I've come up with an idea. The next time I see you, I'll pay you a grand sum of $1, and hire you as my attorney. Then we'll be protected by attorney-client priviledge. Your curiosity will be satisfied, and I will have a little protection.

Deal?

I don't have a problem with you keeping your identity secret, but I have OCD - Overwhelming Curiosity Disorder. Anyway, you have a deal. You don't need to pay me, though -- just find some reason to call me for advice. Or buttonhole me the next time we pass on the sidewalk.

Mark, didn't see you today, but I plan on honoring the deal.

AHCL and Bennett,

So...did y'all ever "seal the deal"?

A Harris County Lawyer said...

Anon C, yes we sealed the deal, but in typical CJC fashion, he keeps resetting my case until I've finished paying him his full fee.
