The Hector Heathcoat Prosecutor Awards

Alright, I stated when I did the Hector Heathcoat Awards the first time that I would do the Defense Bar first, and then the Prosecutors. I'm sure that the mere fact that I'm opening up nominations for the best prosecutors is enough to illicit a ton of backlash from some of the regular commentators who think that the entire staff of the Office needs to be taken out and shot.

But I think that the people who work in the CJC know that there are some excellent prosecutors there.

Nominate them here, if you can deal with the backlash. Every name nominated will go into the bracket system, like I did for the Defense Bar. Nominations close next Friday.

And Kelly Siegler isn't an option, since we are looking for the "unsung" prosecutors.

Here are my three nominees: Ted Wilson, Lyn McClellan, Denise (Nassar) Bradley

I wholeheartedly second Anonymous 9:51's nomination of Brad Hart. To me, there is no better example in the office of what a prosecutor should be.

First of all, It's got to be someone that actually owns up to having the word "Justice" in their job description. And I don't mean the let's see how many people we can throw in prison kinda "Justice", I mean the -Hey, let's take a good look at this evidence provided to us, and make a non-agenda oriented decision whether this person is really guilty kind of "Justice". Do we have anyone like that?

Secondly, it can't be anyone who claim a victory over George Parnhman in a trial case. Winning a case against Parnham is like winning the Special Olympics, when ya aint "Special" .

Whoops - there goes Denise Nasser

Thirdly, they shouldn't be brainwashed by the HCSO
This DA should actually consider on a regular basis, questioning some of the Sheriff's investigation results and tactics.

Go Figure !

So I vote for Bert- He's single, and kinda cute- that will do

Just how many votes does "anonymous" get? Enough already! Ted Wilson gets my vote.

Pam, I'm not real sure what you meant with your comments, but okay.

Toggleblog,
Don't worry. We're just in the nomination phase this week. The votes don't start until the end of the week, so multiple nominations don't count extra.

And you are correct about Rob being disciplined at the time. He had already been publicly announced as the new Deputy Dawg of Misdemeanor, and he was removed from that slot, which embarrassed him greatly. The media doesn't bother reporting on that or the fact that he explained his statements in writing at the time this all happened.

Well,

AHCL, I guess what I am saying is - I don't really know who or what a Hector Heathcoat is- It sounds like an animated character- so give me the lo-down, or I'll just go find it.

And If you are asking for a name for a "worthy" prosecutor- which I am only guessing from the comments posted - then my earlier comments are just a few guidelines.

Now, not knowing which prosecutor would qualify , because my experience is limited ( thank God)......
I nominated Bert G. just for fun.

I just read "the role of a.... maybe this is where I should be posting my comments- because I have many questions about the job description of being a Harris County Prosecutor. I think it is to indict, prosecute & win/convict. Yes ?

and that is what Kelly Siegler is so good at. But is
un-biased "justice" still in the equation... really ?

traveling.....and thus the 3:00am post

I vote for Bert Graham too - he keeps things together. Most people probably have no idea how much he has given to the office - and how much he is willing to give.

After this, maybe you can do "non-ada" awards...if you do, I'll vote for Gary Zallar. He deserves some kind of award!

P.S. Rob Freyer has a heart of gold. Leave the poor guy alone.

Pam, I just didn't understand your earlier comments. Hector Heathcoat was the unsung hero in a cartoon from the 1960s and 1970s. I explain it a little better in the Hector Heathcoat Awards for the Defense Bar in a January post.

And Pam, get some sleep!

Da-esque, couldn't agree more about Rob.

Lance Long. Without a doubt!

Lance Long. He is one of the smartest, hard-working ADAs at the office. He is a fair prosecutor and he is excellent in trial. He also is always willing to help others with their cases.

Terese Buess-honest, tough, and always ready to help. Literally wrote the book on prosecuting child abusers.

Murray Newman said...

Worldisgray,
Not to stir things up too much, but do you know Terese's co-author on the book on prosecuting child abusers?

worldisgray said...

My ommission. Mike Trent was the co-author of the book. Terese is the one I would go to with a question.

Thanks for keeping this blog up, both sides of the fence seem to get upset with you which means it must be doing something right!
