Absence from the Keyboard

I've gotten a couple of complaints about my lack of posting lately.

And by "a couple", I mean two. Thanks to Feroz and Kiatta for your enthusiasm towards the blog.

I actually sat down and started writing a new post on Monday, but then a family medical emergency sprung up and I had to head to out of town ASAP.

I'll get around to typing up something new soon. Anybody got any proposed topics?

How about something about the Harris County District Attorney's Office?

How about the Chron's open records request about 7 district courts that are not going to trial very often....

Khou did a piece on one of the court's lack of work; would be interesting if you could actually post the numbers.

How about the Aggravated car accident division. I can deal with underlying criminal behavior like racing, drinking or excessive speed being prosecuted as manslaughter if it leads to death but it is frightening to think one could be prosecuted for negligence. Aren't all car accidents the result of negligence on someones part. How do we decide if it should be resolved in civil court or felony court??

What about the current judicial campaigns? Have heard that some judges are calling lawyers on the phone asking for campaign contributions. What do you suggest?

How about something about how the judges who oppose a PD's office will get funding to pay the lawyers they appoint if funding for those appointments is strictly curtailed, i.e. ok only in event of conflict or DP cases.

I would suspect CC doesn't appreciate judges telling them how the show is going to go.

How about how your perspective changed from prosecution to defense... What have your experiences been now that you are on the other side? Have any prosecutors or judges done things you thought they shouldn't? Have you had any new realizations about how the prosecutor & defense attorney affect the defendant/client's life?

Have you sent your application to Roger Bridgewater for a position in the Harris County District Attorney's Office yet?
That was the basement breakfeast gossip last week. Murray any truth on that matter?

Wow, Basement guy. That's awesome. I mention a family emergency and you take the opportunity to insult me! I've got to give you Lykos fans credit - when you commit to being a turd, you really go all out!
As much as I enjoyed my time as a prosecutor and am proud of my service there, I think I will pass on attempting to return. I enjoy the freedom and new job description too much to return to that sinking ship.

How about something on Jon and Kate? :)

The judicial arrogance and entitlement in the face of minimal work ethic found in too many District Courts would be more than interesting to report on and might just garner you something the Chronicle never earned......a Pulitzer. After all Obama got the Nobel for much less.

Maybe the new political season. I know a lot of the younger ex-DA's running for judge, but don't know who the Dems and defense community are running or much about them.

How about a discussion on the new hiring policies. I have heard that Roger Bridgewater hired people because he was friends with their parents or because they attend his church? Any truth to those rumor?

Better get back on the clock Murray.

No complaints here.

Rage,

Which is why you felt the desire to read Murray's blog and post a comment?

I think he knows I was joking. I don't always (often?) agree with him, but we'd get along just fine over a beer--or six.

I said it more for you people who have your panties on too tight than anything else.

How about: To which agency does a person report that another person has committed aggravated perjury under oath in family court? I took my X to court for child support enforcement. He falsely claimed to be indigent and was appointed a free (tax-payer paid) attorney. He lied about not having income despite the fact he works as a commission salesman for a particular company. In addition, the night after the trial, I searched his phone number on craigslist and discovered he was actively selling a Jaguar for $10,900 -- and this is an extra car! I want to file charges against him, but don't know how to do it.

You don't have to write anything. This blog may have run its course.

Don't hold your breath there, Snooks. I know what I'm writing next. I should have it written by tomorrow night.

I've just had a busy week.

I like Sabrina's comment about you posting on the differences of going from the prosecutor's office to the defense side. Have you had any epiphanies? Which do you prefer (although we know you will not be going back to prosecuting under this Administration)?
