Yesterday, the Houston Chronicle reported in this story that the personal identification information of all county employees who were working in 2005 and 2007 was unlawfully misappropriated by an outside source. Names, dates of birth and Social Security numbers were among the information taken.
You can read the story by clicking the link, but I've heard that the information stolen was being tracked to locations as far away as Vietnam. I've also heard that the County Attorney's Office has known for quite some time (possibly years) that all of our information had been accessed but was sitting on the info to avoid any legal unpleasantness.
As of this writing, I've yet to be offically notified by any the County that my information has been stolen, and to my knowledge, none of my former co-workers have been either.

I'm actually not amazed. Unfortunately, this isn't my first rodeo with someone getting ahold of my identifying information. Not even my second, actually.
The thing that is annoying about it is the rumors I'm hearing about the County Attorney knowing about it for quite some time and not notifying those affected. I still haven't heard anything other than what I read in the newspaper.
It's all over the news, Judge Emmett was on KSEV, absolutely no information put out at county workplaces by HR or anyone.
Is this a class action lawsuit in the making or what?
We need to put Major Clint Greenwood on this case. I understand he is head the the Sheriff's Investigations Division and I am sure he would solve this case in very short order, criminals would be taking the perp walk and justice will be done. I am sure Sheriff Garcia hired him solely for his outstanding investigations and administrative skills and not because of the Jim Lietner connection.

I still have yet to receive official notice of this "mishap" from the county and I was employed from 2006-2010!!! Any word of an update on this situation?
