Kim Ogg to Run Again

I received an email today from the Kim Ogg for Harris County District Attorney campaign, stating that there would be a campaign announcement tomorrow (September 25th) at 10:00 a.m. across from the CJC.

This is not surprising news, since she pretty much confirmed that she was going to run again immediately after she lost the election for the unexpired term in 2014.

As I stated when she ran last time, Kim is a qualified candidate.  I was disappointed with some of her antics during her 2014 campaign, and I hope there will be more of a discussion of actual issues this time around.

It is worth noting that Kim had a closer margin in her race than most other Harris County Democratic candidates did in 2014.  She is definitely someone that Harris County District Attorney Devon Anderson will need to take seriously on the campaign trail.  However, Devon will now be viewed as a solid incumbent with several years under her belt by November of next year.

As usual, my amateur political analysis is that this race will be decided by who the Republican and Democratic candidates for President are.  I don't see Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders or Joe Biden inspiring Democratic voters to flock to the polls like they did for Obama in 2008.  That being said, if Donald Trump ends up as the Republican candidate, I could absolutely see the Latino community being very motivated to get out and vote against him.  I think the Latino voting bloc is the most influential segment of voters in Harris County right now.

As always, the presidential election years are always so much more interesting than the gubernatorial ones.

Murray, Latinos comprise a large portion of the local population but as a voting bloc they are less likely to vote than any other group. That will change in time but those who reliably vote in elections is a small number comprised largely of blacks and whites, county voters swaying to the right while city voters sway to the left. In presidential election years, more people vote but those core voters are the most reliable and they tend to favor candidates that are right of center.

Ogg again staking her claim early as a means to dissuade fellow democrats from running is no surprise but the democratic party has yet to convince a truly qualified candidate to run for the office. With all her baggage and the people she has hired to assist her, including muck raking former reporters, self important energy traders that wouldn't know an energy trade if it bit them on the rear, and flip flopping snakes that can't find meaningful employment with their own political party as they are considered damaged goods, she would do well to cut all ties to those who killed her chances last time and start anew.

Im a fan of Devon and voted for her last time. But if Kim is willing to change some of the absurd policies she has in place and give her prosecutors some autonomy to make decisions, more cases will get moved, dockets will get smaller and the courthouse will be a much more enjoyable place to come to every morning.

Im on the fence right now. November is a long way away.

The Houston Chronicle has declared war on prosecutors.
I will vote for the HCDA candidate who stands up for Due Process when their ADAs are wrongfully attacked for doing their job. How can I or any ADA effectively try a case when prosecutors (especially female prosecutors) are presumed to be liars and cheats if the verdict does not please the media?
ADAs must not look the other way when a tough case is on the docket or when the defendant has hired a prominent defense attorney…….Harris County cannot afford timid souls hiding under the radar when it is comeuppance time for criminal behavior.
Our DA must make it crystal clear to the general public that there is a HUGE difference between the Defense Bar's motto of winning at all costs and a prosecutor's duty to seek JUSTICE at all costs. To pretend otherwise will have dire consequences for the safety of our community.

It's time for the Harris County District Attorney to grow a pair of functional gonads and stand up to unscrupulous defense counsel and reporters.

Well then, " Just Sayin", Kimbra Ogg is your gal. She has made it a priority to rid the office of prosecutorial misconduct, which she believes is rampant. I am sure that she will not hesitate to throw you under the bus at the first sign of trouble. Heck she even has Wayne D on her team to ferret out the misdeeds of those win at all cost prosecutors.

Let us know how it works out for you.

ANON 6:55:

HILLARY'S ORANGE JUMPSUIT WON'T HAVE ANY COATTAILS FOR KIM OGG TO RIDE IN ON.

IT'S ANOTHER, "WHOEVER WINS THE REPUBLICAN PRIMARY IS DA", SO I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHO ELSE FILES.

I'M NOT A FAN OF KIM OR DEVON.

From the Chronicle in 2014:

"Democratic challenger Kim Ogg criticized district attorney Devon Anderson, saying her office did not prosecute the accused killer more severely in a 2013 drug case."

Oh yeah, Ogg will definitely have the backs of the frontline prosecutors when she rules the roost.

Anon 9:42,

Sadly, Kim Ogg, if elected, will no more have our (ADAs') backs than Devon Anderson has thus far demonstrated.

The 6th floor has abdicated to political correctness and it is not likely that standing up will replace kneeling down anytime soon.

Who knew?

The Republican nominee will be Devon. No one else will file.

When is the filing deadline?

Anon 7:33,

The gauntlet has been thrown………..alas, what a dreary proposition for the victor!

Get ready for a republican sweep of all Harris County county-wide offices if Hillary or Bernie Sanders or even Joltin' Joe Biden is the Dem nominee. This is one time where it may not matter who the Repubs select unless a new Dem candidate emrges from somewhere.

Webb and possibly O'Malley could make Harris County a closer race, but they can't get the nomination unless Hill drops out.

Anon 7:18, the filing deadline is December 14, 2015 at 6:00pm.

The filing fee is $2000.00

Filing opens November 14, 2015.

I expect to see "Just Sayin' to be first in line to file.

I worked with Mike, Devon and Kim in the DA's Office and Kim is by far the best trial attorney. Kim also has good judgment and doesn't retaliate simply because she can. I don't live in Houston anymore so I really don't have a dog in the hunt, but Devon and Belinda fall short.

I've only seen Devon in trial, but it was in Resendez-Ramirez and she was freaking awesome.

Kim Ogg is not a good trial lawyer. She pisses and moans when the least little thing does not go her way.

Neither Kimbra nor Devon are "freaking awesome" trial attorneys. Fortunately, the office of DA is all about administrative issues.

Word is that Morris Overstreet is running against her in the primary. Overstreet is a former CCA Judge.
