Three Days Left - Go Vote

This time next week, you'll be waking up to learn the results of the Republican and Democratic Primaries.

Hopefully, you've already voted by now, but if you haven't, get off your rear end and go do it.

If you have already voted, now is a great time to start calling and e-mailing your friends and making sure that they've voted already.

Yes, it is time to start annoying them into voting.  They will forgive you.  Eventually.

Early voting ends on Friday and then you'll have to wait until Election Day to vote.

If you need more information, click here.

"We are eager to show the public all the evidence in this case." - Patricia R. Lykos (2/1/12)

"The Harris County District Attorney’s Office has long been eager to share what we know with the public. Now that the grand jury’s proceedings have ended, we will be responding—vigorously.

In the days to come, our website—HarrisCountyDA.com—will feature a new section devoted to setting the record straight." (source: www.harriscountyda.com).

Dear Ms. Lykos:

Good morning. We are still here and we are still patient; however, it is running a bit thin. Please follow through and release this evidence. We could pass it out at the polls. Just a thought.

Okay, thanks - enjoyed the dialogue. Keep your head up. Remember to hide the lines. Try a pair of Spanx.

Sincerely,

- the public

Quick question here and please no smart ass replys. I could not find much info on Donna Detamore and Theresa Chang. None of my friends know them or anything about them. Any info would be helpful. I would like to vote today so please respond if you have anything that would help me to make an informed decision.

I carpooled to go vote with a bunch of folks from my apartment complex last night. There were 28 total of us, plus a few who planned to go in the morning. That's right Patsy, the gig is up.

I actually started crying when I was explaining what my job means to me and how awful it has been working in this toxic mess. I went to law school for this, it's my lifelong dream, and I won't let that sack of something get in my way.

Not that my opinion will mean anything to the majority of the chumps here, but:

Theresa Chang

Worked in the county attorney's office (know anyone else who worked there?), was appointed to complete Charles Bacarisse's term as district clerk, and was then beaten by Loren Jackson, one of the best public officials this county has ever seen (a Democrat, for all you "Democrats all suck" types), and then was most recently appointed to fulfill the term of Judge Susan Lucci-Smith, who left for private practice to work for Winstead, doing condemnation work. She has never worked in private practice (that I know of), and has, as of last week, never tried a single jury trial as a judge (I'm betting not as a lawyer, either), despite having one of the busiest courts in the state. Judge Lloyd (in CCCL4, a very good judge) is trying all of her jury cases for her, or at least has been.

I suspect she was taken from the county attorney's office (as were Judge Smith and Judge Storey [yes, daughter of County Engineer Storey who works for the county]) in order to make sure any rulings in county land condemnation cases were kept as favorable to the county as possible.

Word is that although she was appointed by the commissioners, the Party is backing her opponent:

Donna Detamore

A nobody in the civil courthouse. Her law degree is from Thurgood Marshall, which is to say that she has no law degree worth even the paper it's written on. She has been in practice since 1978, yet I have not ever seen her face there. And that tells me she is not likely to be up on recent issues, law, or developments in civil practice. She is board certified in family law, which means she likely knows absolutely nothing about the rules of procedure or evidence, since those rules are meaningless in the family law courthouse.

In summation, if you have anything in County Civil Court at Law #2, and one of these two are your judge, you are screwed no matter what side you are on. They have no background worth anything in that court, except maybe Chang at least knows some condemnation law (although she was in compliance with the county attorney's office, not litigation). In civil matters, I am betting that their rulings will be wildly sporadic and inaccurate. Bone up on preserving error.

Is Pooper so smug because of blind arrogance or is he really just that good?

Chang was a municipal court judge for Houston, too, for what it's worth.

Theresa Chang was rated Well Qualified by a 3-to-1 margin over Detamore in the 2012 Bar Poll. Chang has actually practiced in that county civil court before. Chang has tremendous support among party activists, but her opponent has a good number of supporters, also. Chang won the precinct chair straw poll conducted by the party, even though her opponent has been in the race far longer.

Detamore is a perennial candidate who never wins a Republican primary. She ran against Denise Pratt for family court judge in 2010 in a five-way race. Pratt (a first-time candidate) won with no runoff. Detamore's husband is Paul Dwight, a movie theater manager, who also ran for office in 2010. He got beat handily in the primary by Chris Daniel for District Clerk.

Nothing. Kirkland in the 215th was too, and I recently described him to a client as "in a race to the bottom" to be the worst judge in the county. In a race with Gomez in the 129th, in case y'all are wondering (not like you'll vote for a Democrat anyway). Kirkland won't stop saying he's been a judge for over 10 years, and that he has tried hundreds of cases. Traffic ticket cases just don't count there, buckaroo.

Thank you for the info. So far I have 37 people that have voted early for Mike (Some are waiting for the 29th). When I first got involved I thought this would be easy. Well it certainly has not been a walk in the park. But seriously when Mike wins it will have been worth every hour spent on the phone, computer and door to door.

Well-qualified by any margin over a TSU grad who is never in the courthouse doesn't mean a thing.

Neither of those candidates are worth a damn and don't belong on the bench.

Check out this story from the Houston Press in 2009 - Lykos said she was increasing the Victim (Witness) Rights Division.

NOW - and for a while - there are LESS people working there than under Rosenthal.

Awesome.

'member when Lykos said she would look in the Asher Brown death - got her lots of press for what she was gonna do.

Anyone know what happened?

In 2008, Lykos said she'd get free housing for mentally ill - how's that coming along?

Former ADA working those polls, working those polls, lots of people giving thumbs up, lots of police officers but we need more. Time to redouble your efforts and get those neighbors, friends and relatives to the polls. Every vote is needed so get busy.

Quote of the day:
Voter: I've been told she could not get 25% of her office to vote for her.
Working those polls: I doubt she could get 25 people from her office to vote for her.

VOTE, VOTE, VOTE, VOTE

My Brother in Law a passenger vans that he use's to transport his workers. I borrowed one two day and took 37 people to the polls that voted for PAT LYKOS.

Anon 12:22 you need to get busy then because that’s not near enough votes. Most likely the only votes she got...The general pubic have started to see Lycos for what she is. NOTHING but a LIAR that only cares about getting elected and nothing about the people she is elected to help protect. That would be us you know, the citizens of Harris County. Believe it or not we have brains, eyes, ears, and can actually think for ourselves. She has given us much to think about. Let us go down the list. She chooses to not follow our laws as written, divert and trace case come to mind. It is very plain that she has no respect for the law or her office. By allowing Ms. Palmer to plead the fifth and not punishing her, instead placing her in a position that is generally attained by hard work really helped the citizens get to know her. We also got to understand how she broke the law concerning the Grand Jury. Oh and we saw her office being investigated by the Texas Rangers. I think change is going to be good for all citizens of H.C. A side note here for you: If you transported 37 people in a van you do have a CDL that allows you to do so right? Oh I guess it doesn't matter Pat will allow you to break the law for her, since it doesn't matter to her either.

If your friends are as literate as you are, I wouldn't count on them having voted the way you wanted them to....

Don, will you never learn to quit drunk commenting. That sounds like your brother in law IS a passenger van. Worse still - two day instead of today! A new low even for you.

You mean his brother in law is not a van? I am so disappointed.

Wait - maybe that's why Rachel took the fifth - her brother IS a Bat Van!
