Lloyd Oliver is good at one thing - bringing together people of many different backgrounds. Liberals, conservatives, traditionalists and feminists all agree he would be a DISASTER regarding violence against women issues.
Mike Anderson has promised to increase services and resources on family violence cases.
Go Mike Anderson!!!!
Its interesting (and concerning) that in all the positive comments for oliver, there are more "likes" and less "dislikes." Could this be an indication of how voting will go?
The Lykos years have so diminished the HCDAO that it's possible the voters just may hold the office in such low regard that they would not think it would be wrong to elect Oliver.
Maybe it is time for common sense prosecution instead of these letter of the law prosecutions that attempt to tag people with felonies for a domestic violence threat or a slap while police officers are charged with misdemeanor official oppression when they assault handcuffed suspects with thorough beatings. When the DA protects law enforcement while going after everyday folks with zeal even where there was no credible safety issue and frequently where the complaining witness wants charges dropped...we don't seem to have equal protection under the law. Like Animal Farm, some are more equal than others. Many on these blogs like to point out how good of a prosecutor Seigler is because she has beaten Deguerin several times...would the same logic not apply to Oliver prevailing over the DA's office on unsubstantiated charges against him. Forgive me if I give him the benefit of the doubt regarding his desire to do justice as opposed to obtaining convictions that are not in the interest of justice. He may not be the best legal mind running, but he may be the fairest candidate running.
Yes, by all means, let's look at bringing in an outsider who has no clue as to what they are doing. That was pretty much the mantra of Pat Lykos in 2008. It didn't turn out so well.
Now, I'm sure that there are plenty of die-hard Lykos fans who are now feeling the egg on their face after they predicted how she was going to crush Mike Anderson in the primary. They are the ones now saying that Mike needs to "mend fences" with the Lykos base.
I don't believe that Mike ever really insulted the Lykos base. He just dared to run against their candidate and soundly defeat her. If anyone needs to be making amends with anyone, I would think it would be a certain Republican loudmouth who insulted several candidates that prevailed by large margins.
Yeah, I'm talking to you, Gary Polland.
It didn't turn out so well.
Actually, many of us in the county think it did. It certainly could have been better, and I am certainly no fan of Lykos, but I am a fan of reduced incarceration rates and saving tens of millions of dollars a year, without a corresponding increase in crime rates that many Rosenthal fans predicted.
Oliver is clearly a buffoon. But as Lykos showed, despite wasteful spending and general lunacy, no DA can truly destroy the place and crimes will still get prosecuted.
I was going to stay out of this race by not voting for either side, but I'm voting for Oliver now. We don't need another Holmes/Rosenthal in the office. And if there's another Obama-effect, at least Murray will have material for four more years.
Rage
Anyone who thinks Oliver would bring common sense prosecution to the HCDAO only needs to remember his comment that he would hire Lykos and her team to continue working there, which could only mean 4 more years of the same mess. My vote: Anderson.
